About Us

About The Royal Oak

The Royal Oak is a beautiful pub in the stunning village of Holmbury St. Mary. It dates back centuries and has a wonderful history, retaining many original features.
Holmbury St. Mary recently gained international fame when it was reported that the cottage in the Hollywood film “The Holiday” was based on one in Holmbury. It is a very popular destination for walkers and cyclists. We’re fortunate to have fantastic walks with spectacular views and amazing cycling trails right on our doorstep.
The pub was taken over in February 2023 by local residents. They have set about making numerous improvements in a bid to create one of the best pubs in Surrey. The Royal Oak now offers the finest craft beers, great quality wines and exceptional food at good value prices.

Head Chef Richard Attkins uses fresh locally-sourced ingredients to create a menu of pub classics with an emphasis on Fish Fridays and our extremely popular Sunday Roasts. The dishes change regularly to use seasonal ingredients, with a daily special, but we always keep a few classic favourites on the menu.
We love dogs here at The Royal Oak and our four-legged friends are always welcome. Fresh water and free dog treats are always available.
Whether you’re looking for a celebration dinner for a large group, or just popping in for a quick drink after a walk or cycle ride in our stunning countryside, you’ll receive a warm welcome here.
